I was recently asked by someone if I thought it was necessary to tell jokes while presenting. While obviously it depends on the subject matter a bit, this is a classic “pick your way of being wrong” problem.


Some people would be devastated if they thought they were boring the audience. Some people would be devastated if they tried to tell a joke and it didn’t land. Boring vs lame, pick your poison.

It should be noted that the closer the joke is to your topic, the better you’ll probably do. Personally I find very few things more irritating than an irrelevant joke unless it’s an EXTREMELY funny irrelevant joke.
